Rimmel Apocalips in Nude Eclipse - Review and Swatch

After purchasing both Big Bang and Apocaliptic, I knew I had to find at least one more shade I loved out of the range, but something I don't already have in another shape or form. I only have one more nude lip product, but I bought that at the same time as this, so I wasn't to know that the first didn't work out great for me, and therefore I had super high expectations for the shade Nude Eclipse becoming my perfect nude shade. My first two Apocalips were perfectly opaque and beautifully pigmented, but did Nude Eclipse live up to that?

Love At First Bite - Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. I really, really wanted this to work for me, because my previous two shades had been perfectly opaque, but Nude Eclipse just doesn't cut it, it sinks into every crease, nook and cranny on my lips but leaves no pigment anywhere else. This seems to happen with every nude lip product I try, probably because I have naturally bright pink lips that the nudes take one look at and think to themselves, 'sod it, I'm not touching that!', then run in the opposite direction screaming their lungs out. No matter how pigmented the product looks on a hand swatch, it NEVER comes out that way on my lips.
Second Tomb Lucky - Shock horror, the second time I tried this out, it looked perfectly even. There are two ways I can explain that transformation - 1) the first day I tried it, it was a dull, grey, dreary day and the next test was on a lovely and bright sunny day, and 2) the product has dried out a little since I first tried it, so it's not as fluid and liquid-y, and it's not falling into the creases of my lips anymore. I was all ready to leap to my blog and insult this, but now I love it. I'm throwing it on whenever I don't feel like an opaque lip, and it applies evenly, hallelujah! I don't know what on earth happened in the meantime, but this has gone from a waste of money to my go-to product on a non-bright lip day!

Nude Eclipse has taught me a lot - don't judge a product by its first impression. Give it a while and try it again. It might just surprise you.
You can find the Rimmel Apocalips in Boots and Superdrug for £5.99.

Does Nude Eclipse work for you?

  1. It's weird when things don't turn out right at first then you use them again and they're suddenly perfect.

I also hate it when I'm trying to use up something I don't like and it miraculously starts getting better when I've nearly finished it. D:

    1. Haha it definitely caught me off guard, I just needed a nude lip for the day ahead and BOOM, suddenly a perfect lip product! Hahaa I wish I could feel that pain but I've yet to ever really finish off something besides mascara, I need to start a Project Pan for sure! x

    1. Haha don't worry, I'm tempted to buy the entire range myself, they're just too gorgeous! Haha I think it's the opaque nude-ness that makes it difficult to adjust to! xx
