The Zombie Turns 21

I turned 21 last week, and it still hasn't sunk in. It's been such a busy week, I've only just got around to writing about it.

I spent my birthday with the boyfriend, who spent more than too much on me. I didn't get around to telling him beforehand 'oh, don't buy me anything', but sure enough, he bought too much. He knows about and supports my blog so he bought a few Body Shop products which I'm loving so far, so expect to see reviews of them soon!
Oh, and Gangnam Style socks.

Now we know which one of us is the wannabe tourist!

We didn't actually do much on the day, spent a chilled day together in the city as always - just what I needed. My in-laws gave me the loveliest birthday cards and have made me feel so welcome. I had a fantastic day and it's all thanks to my family and Mark's.

The next day, me and my mum headed to London to visit the Victoria and Albert Museum and to see the Pet Shop Boys at the O2. As this was my first trip to London without the aid of a school coach, I had to navigate the tube system, and with a distinct phobia of trains and the shaking carriages, I was a nervous wreck, but as you're reading this now, I'm still alive. Just.
London's not a fantastic place for me. I walk around my city faster than everyone else does, but I'm nowhere near as fast as everyone in London, they all power walk like they're on steroids. Sort it out, London, before I have a premature heart attack induced by standing on the escalators on the wrong side. Christ, Londoners take that so personally, don't they? I'm a tourist, I make mistakes, I profusely apologise, I'll go to confession later in the afternoon...

The V&A museum was a little disappointing to say the least. I'm not an artsy person but I had hoped the historical element would emerge somewhere but sadly, it didn't for me. After all, I'm a modernist, so pretty much everything featured is way before my time.

Although I did find an awesome Tudor bed.

I also visited the David Bowie is... exhibition in the V&A but I'll review that separately, but in short - I was disappointed a little bit more.

Onto the O2 and we had our first ever Nando's - I'm in love! Nobody does chicken quite like Nando's. Phwoar.

My reviews of the O2 and the Pet Shop Boys gig are available on my music blog, Zombies Wear Band Shirts, so if you're interested in what happened there, feel free to hop over and have a read!

So a huge thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday - I had a wonderful time, and it means a lot to me that you all took time out of your day to wish me a merry womb emancipation day. Let me tell you, 21 years of freedom, it feels good.

  1. I'm afraid I'm one of those people who take escalator sins personally. When I first started going to London, everyone rushed by and glared at me, so I got into the habit of rushing by and glaring at people too.

    But happy (late) birthday!

  2. You're 21! Wow. A belated 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' from me. I'd be just as terrified of the power walkers and trains in London. I'm 5'1 and would get swallowed by the crowds never to be seen again! Thank God, you survived. Your socks are so cute too!
