L'Oreal Elnett - Why I'll Never Use Another Hairspray

I'm a hairspray addict, there's no doubt about that. If I'm not followed by a significant cloud of O-Zone-layer-destroying toxins, then there's something wrong with me. But I'm picky when it comes to what brand I use.

When I started out using hairspray a mere 4 years ago, I wanted to find a nice cheap solution, so I grabbed a Sainsbury's own brand can for about 70p and stuck with it for a few months purely because it held well and I didn't want to trust another brand and find my hair lifeless halfway through the day. It did a good enough job, but I was naive, I didn't know back then exactly what I should have demanded from a hairspray - holding my style all day, keeping it as good as it was when it left the curlers/crimpers/wavers first thing in the morning.

However, I soon grew out of that when I grabbed L'Oreal Elnett on a 2 for £8 offer out of curiosity and attraction to the shiny packaging. Yes, I am in fact a magpie. I guess the glamorous doodle girl on the bottle contributed too, but let's face it, they're there for that sole purpose.

Have you ever sprayed your hair too much and you end up with crispy sections? Multiple partings where you didn't even have one? Does your hair become a ticking frizz-bomb with one spray? Does your hair end up dead straight at the end of the day, wasting all your hard work?

I hate to sound like one of those cheesy commercials but believe me when I say, I've never had those problems with Elnett. In fact, quite the opposite. I can spray a tonne of product into my barnet and it feels natural, holding enough volume so my hair doesn't feel weighed down, but also doesn't feel like I have done nothing with it. My waves/curls/crimps stay in perfectly for the entire day and they even look great the next day, so there's no dirty, product-clogged feeling the morning after.

I like to buy the big 500ml cans because it's a lot easier to tell if you're running low than it is with the travel-sized cans, plus it's great value for the money given one big can lasts me two months depending on how often I use it. I used to keep a small can in my bag for on-the-go touch-ups, but since I've used the stronger formulas such as Diamond Hold, I've had no need for them.

The 2 for £8-odd offers regularly spring up in supermarkets and drugstores, so if you're interested, it's best to wait around, it can be quite pricey to fork out for this at normal price!

  1. Love the sound of this, I tend to just grab what ever is on offer when it comes to hairspraay be recently I've noticed some leaving residue and making my skalp itch which is a pain in the bum. Good old elnett sound amazing though I will be picking some up :)

  3. I've been debating switching to Elnett for ages but talked myself out of it because I thought it was too expensive, but I'm going to go and buy a can tomorrow now, I need to stop being lazy when it comes to hairspray! My Nanna used to use Elnett to keep her curls in place and refused to use anything else.

  4. I only ever use Elnett. My Grandma has used it exlusively for decades and I grew up with it around me. I've been using it for years.

  5. I wish I got those benefits from Elnett, I really do - as you say, hair doesn't look crispy or weighed down with it, but its longevity on my hair is every bit as lacklustre as an own-brand spray. If I need a bun to stay in place any spray will do, but if I want volume or curls to last or anything that requires gravity to be defied, it doesn't do anything for me.
But it does brush out nicely, which is good because I need lots in any of my more ambitious styles.

  6. I really like Elnett so far, like you said, it doesn't make my hair crispy like other hairsprays. The only disappointment with it for me is the smell.
