That's it, 2014's over, but it's given us some cracking albums to remember. From The Ghost Inside to Fearless Vampire Killers, 2014 has been the year of breakout concept albums - time to look back on my top 10 albums of the year.
10. Machine Head - Bloodstone and Diamonds
10. Machine Head - Bloodstone and Diamonds
The thrash legends came back with another face-melter to rival The Blackening.
9. Memphis May Fire - Unconditional
This record changed metalcore as we know it, and long may it reign.
8. Fozzy - Do You Wanna Start A War
Chris Jericho and co. have done it again - wall-to-wall riffs and catchy lyrics.
7. The Ghost Inside - Dear Youth
A fantastic concept record that you'll still be plugging into for years to come.
6. Issues - Issues
Tyler Carter's R&B melodies collide beautifully with Michael Bohn's guttural screams.
5. Wovenwar - Wovenwar
The only way is up for the ex-As I Lay Dying and Oh, Sleeper lot.
4. Fearless Vampire Killers - Unbreakable Hearts
FVK have outdone themselves with this heavier extended concept album.

3. The Used - Imaginary Enemy
Politically-charged, hard-hitting and contemplative, The Used's 2014 offering heralded their new direction and it ruddy well suits them.
2. Architects - Lost Forever // Lost Together
This game-changing record was the best move Architects have ever made. Atmospheric heaviness ahoy, if you haven't jumped on this ship yet, now's your chance.
1. Set It Off - Duality
Who needs genres? Set It Off break free of every expectation and blast them out of the water with a versatile record worthy of the utmost respect.
