Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent - Review and Swatch

When it comes to powder, I'm quite picky. I want it to both keep my skin matte for a long time, and to even out my foundation, because I've still not found my 'perfect' foudation yet.
I asked during a #bbloggers Twitter chat a month ago what powder you use, I was overwhelmed with responses raving about the Rimmel Stay Matte powder.
At first, I was quite disappointed with the colour range, it's all well and good if you're a nicely tanned lass but I'm not. Collection 2000's shade 'Ivory' suits me perfectly, but I had to settle for Transparent in Rimmel, which already defeats my aim of a powder that evens out my foundation. Transparent powder's really only for the lucky ones that have found their perfect foundation shade.

This feels like quite a shallow pan but I have yet to make any kind of dent in it from use, so a little seems to go a long way.

Love At First Bite - I applied the powder just as thickly as I normally do - twist brush into the pan, dab on forehead, twist, cheek, twist, other cheek, twist, nose, twist, chin and neck. Within an hour, my face felt oily again. I couldn't have put on too little powder, surely? I reached for my old powder almost instantly and applied that on top.

The Second Coming - This time I tried loading my brush with a lot more powder and working it into my skin a bit more. This time, my skin was a bit less oily after about 5 hours, as the product states it would keep you matte for that time, but it still wasn't matte by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, my skin felt sludgy and uneven, but not oily exactly.

Third Tomb Lucky - I persevered. I loaded my brush with even more product and got to work. Surprisingly, this time I didn't feel sludgy until the 3 hour mark had passed, which was about the time when I'm used to reapplying anyway. Although because of its transparent appearance, I still felt a little conscious about my uneven foundation, but it happily kept my foundation in place for the entire day.

So I found the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder didn't live up to the hype it's received from the blogosphere, but that could well be attributed to my super oily skin. As a mattifying powder, it didn't work miracles, but it certainly kept my foundation glued to my non-oily areas all day.

You can find this at Boots and Superdrug for £3.99.

What's your view on this powder?

    1. Thanks hun! Yeah it's such a shame we can't seem to find anything that works with oily skin, I love liquid foundation too but it always emphasises my shine, I'll be a damn beacon one of these days! xxx

  2. I love the NYC Loose Powder. (On me, at least) it really makes everything last longer, as well as mattifying (is that a word? you know... making matte) and smoothing out my skin.
