Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Backcomb In A Bottle - Review

I was damaging my hair to no ends (hehe geddit, no ends?) by backcombing and torturing my hair until I got hold of this on a 3 for 2 offer on professional haircare at Boots. I'd heard so many good things about the Umberto Giannini range, especially Backcomb In A Bottle, so it seemed like an ideal buy.

Initially I was expecting massive volume, a huge improvement in body and height, especially considering I tilted my head upside-down to improve the voluminous effect and sprayed directly into my roots. But I just didn't get it. My hair was only slightly improved in volume, my roots were a bit more lifted but not as much as if I'd backcombed to oblivion. Perhaps I was expecting too much, hoping to come out looking like the lady on the bottle, but instead I just came out with about a centimetre of improved height. But that being said, it's still a centimetre of much-needed volume.

Unlike most hairsprays, this doesn't crisp my hair, but it leaves a nice texture behind, say if you'd dusted your hair very lightly with talc, but minus the white hair. The spray doesn't appear whatsoever on my black hair, it's completely transparent.
While I don't feel it's giving me the massive 'backcomb' effect it promises, I'm loving using it, as it smells heavenly and sweet instead of the chemical overpowering smell I get from my L'Oreal Elnett hairspray. I use this all over my hair and work it into my roots, then spray a light layer of Elnett over the top, and my style stays put for the entire day.

Having used it every day since I bought it last month, I haven't made much of a dent in the contents either, so I'm happy it's been worth the money in terms of longevity. In terms of volume, so long as you're not misled by the illustration on the bottle and keep your expectations reasonably low, you're fine. I'd definitely recommend this if you're struggling with damaged hair from backcombing or simply struggling with finding the time or energy to backcomb in the morning.
