Why Do I Wear Makeup? Tag

When I first saw this tag kicking around the blogosphere, I answered the question in my own mind with the following: 'well, because I need it'. Of course, there's a lot more to it than that, and that's exactly what this tag is all about. It may seem brief but I love going in-depth with tag posts so without further ado, here's why I wear makeup!

1. When did you begin to love make up?
I have to admit, I started truly loving it back in secondary school, which was the wrong time to start loving makeup because my school wouldn't accept it. I remember the day my headteacher grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me to her office for wearing black nail polish as if it were yesterday. However, that bears no relation to when I started wearing it. My mum used to help me put on lashings of concealer from the age of 10 because of school bullies, but needless to say I never really loved it at that point, it was more of a chore that I wished I didn't have to do!

2. How do you feel without make up?
One word - horrendous. I can't look anyone except my parents in the eye because my dark circles are horrific and my skin is bad. I never leave the house without at least some concealer on. It's not vanity either, it's about being able to hold my head up with confidence.

3. What do you like about make up?
For the sake of variety in this post, I won't reference the necessity for makeup here, but I love the creativity involved. I'm an eyeshadow enthusiast as any regular readers of my blog will notice. I love playing with colours, blending, flicking eyeliner, no two days looks are the same and that's what I love. I use my face as a canvas, I was never good at drawing so makeup's easier because the shapes are already drawn in, you just have to colour it in!

4. Three 'Holy Grail' Items?
1. The Maybelline Color Tattoos are absolute staples for me because I always wear heavy eyeshadow that needs gluing/surgically fixing to my eyelids through the day.
2. Maybelline The Falsies mascara in waterproof. I physically cannot use another mascara now, because I know it doesn't work the magic that the Falsies does!
3. MUA Undressed palette. If I didn't have this, I wouldn't have a portable transition between neutral eyes to glam bronze eyes to full-on black eyes.

So that's it, a nice and brief tag but I'm sure other peoples' responses to the questions will be a lot more interesting, so if you've done this tag, please drop your link below!

  1. Haha, I can relate so much xD I hated makeup initially, then appreciated it cause it used to hide all of the blemishes. Then one summer I got bored and started looking online at random blogs and finally saw makeup as art and then the makeupaddiction began xD I haven't tried any of your 3 holy grail items. I'm not sure what i'd make my own holy grail items >.<

  2. Luckily, my school has given up on the whole make up strictness, but I've been told about nail varnish too many times. Woah, I didn't know have my nails painted affected my final grade in Geography.. Ha! :) x

    1. Corr you have no idea how lucky you are! Haha the only time nail polish would ever affect us in school is Food Tech, my teacher screamed at me for wearing bright red polish on the day we were making pizza... needless to say, it was an OPI polish so it didn't even chip off in the dough! Haha! xx

  3. I remember wearing eyeliner in school and being told to take it off all the time. Then when I was at home I would sometimes spend hours on my makeup and my favourite thing was my bright pink eyeshadow.

    1. Haha it was such a great feeling though wasn't it? Coming home and pretty much diving into the makeup stash, loading on a tonne of makeup and coming out transvestite-esque purely for the sake of it! xx
