Christmas Playlist

I said I didn't like Christmas, and I wasn't lying. But the one thing I adore about the festive period is the one thing most people can't stand - the songs. I pull out Christmas songs in July in preparation for December because I just love them so much. I'm not a fan of most mainstream Christmas songs though, so this playlist will be full of more alternative, pessimistic anthems for the holiday season. From Wednesday 13 to Fall Out Boy, what more could you want this Christmas?

The Used - Alone This Holiday

The irony of this song kills me - my idol Kelly Osbourne provides guest vocals on a song describing the same situation she experienced when The Used's Bert broke up with her on Valentine's Day. But if you're going through a breakup this Christmas, Bert gives you a pat on the back with this cracker.

My Chemical Romance - All I Want For Christmas Is You

I admit there's one Christmas song I despise, and it's the Mariah Carey original of this. But Gerard Way makes this all the more bearable, and the heavier way they approach this saccharine classic puts it up there with the best Christmas covers in my books.

Fall Out Boy - Yule Shoot Your Eye Out

Not just for Pete Wentz in the thumbnail, oh no, Fall Out Boy sprinkle their pessimistic magic over the festive season and throws out some more support for Christmas romantic splits. Patrick shows us all how good he is at present giving, but here's a spoiler for you: he's not.

Breathe Carolina - Mile High Christmas

This playlist would be nothing without a bit of shameless cheese, right? Mile High Christmas may not be to everyone's tastes, but I find it hilarious. Favourite lyrics? When the beat drops to 'PRESENTS! LET'S OPEN THIS SHIT UP!', of course.

Wednesday 13 - Buried By Christmas

If you thought your Christmas list was a bit empty, think again. And while you're at it, go back to your letter to Santa and write down that you want a bucket of chicken. This is such an unexpected song, and that's what makes it so much more entertaining.

Corey Taylor - X-M@$

You can count on Slipknot's frontman to stand up and be counted as the king of Christmas hate. This song holds nothing back, from decorations to eggnog, Corey finds himself pissed off with everything festive.

The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)

Boy am I glad I've seen them perform this live! When this classic was beaten to Christmas #1, I slipped into festive depression for a good few years, playing this on repeat whenever I saw a hint of tinsel.

Street Drum Corps - Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

Bert McCracken makes another appearance on my playlist with this fantastic cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's classic - I'd even say it's better than the original because it's a lot less chaotic, better recording quality and the blessing of Bert's haunting vocals.

All Time Low - Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass

Catchy tune time! If it weren't for the expletives, I guarantee this would have been doing the radio rounds by now. All Time Low have established themselves as the kings of festive cheese with this, and their recent offering Fool's Holiday carries on the legacy.

Blink 182 - I Won't Be Home For Christmas

This playlist wouldn't be complete without the original pop punk Scrooges - Blink 182. And bonus, it comes with a moral to the story - don't lash out at carollers, kids.

Set It Off - This Christmas (I'll Burn It To The Ground)

Ever found yourself riled by those wealthy bloggers bragging about their Christmas presents? Set It Off know exactly how you feel, so this anthem tells the tale of Jack, a kid that takes his revenge one Christmas. Inspired by Nightmare Before Christmas, this is by far the most thought-out Christmas tune so you'd be mad to miss it, and I can guarantee you'll have it on loop for days.
