Music Inspired Makeup: Pour Some Sugar On Me

I had this idea a few months ago as documented on Instagram, but I never had the motivation to go ahead with it because I didn't have many followers and although I adore playing with makeup for my own amusement, it helps to have someone there to tell you whether you're doing it right or wrong, someone else's attention would suffice so my work isn't entirely wasted. My two favourite things are makeup and music so I wanted to combine the two and get creative. So I'm going to establish this as a permanent fixture on my blog, I'll be putting a separate tab at the top of the page to direct you to all similar posts, I'm so excited to get started and make this summer a little more productive!

12 weeks it's taken me to put this into action!

The Maine - Pour Some Sugar On Me

I love the Def Leppard original, but strangely I like The Maine's cover just a bit more, maybe it's the recent recording quality, the vocals are stronger, the entire song creates a slightly more enthusiastic atmosphere, but please don't shoot me for indirectly criticising the godfathers of rock.

Admittedly, I'm being very literal with my interpretation of the song's meaning, I'm trying to be PG here, but we all know what the song really refers to, right?

In my head, the image 'pour some sugar on me' conjures is that of popping colour, a scene Katy Perry would feel at home in. I picture a rain of glitter, cupcakes covered in sprinkles and sparkles, shining away like there's no tomorrow.

To me, silver is my sugar. I wear silver every second of the day in jewellery, it sparkles like grains of sugar. When I see silver, whether it's in an eyeshadow palette, or even tiny micro particles in a lip gloss, I grab it and hold onto it for dear life. I can never have enough silver, I couldn't betray silver with gold. Silver brings a smile to my face, I know I'm in a good mood when silver is in my life. My favourite nail polish is Barry M Foil Effects Silver, and the only nail polish I've ever run out of was an old Revlon Chrome Silver.

  1. Such a good idea, and it turned out really pretty! I love silver but I don't really play with it very often. It's one of my favourite Def Leppard songs too.

    1. Thank you so much! Same here, this is the first time I've played with silver because it makes me look even paler than I already am, plus it somehow reminds me of Kristen Stewart because I've seen her with silver eyeshadow so many times, and right now it's not good to associate myself with her! Def Leppard are just genius, I hope I didn't insult their honour by picking the cover :( Ali xx

  3. This looks amazing! Basically like what I try to accomplish for a night out, realistically a million miles away from what I actually look like! Totally gonna try it, thanks! :)
