Twisted Sista Curl Activator - Review

I spotted this while trawling through the beauty products on a Tesco online order, and as I have hair straight as a die, I was more than excited to try a product that would actually put curls in my hair.

What the Tesco site didn't tell me is that this is meant for 'naturally curly/permed' hair. Mine is neither. But I persevered, and I applied it to wet hair just as I'd got out of the shower, just as the bottle instructed.

It's a cream formula but one of those stiff formulas that just doesn't distribute properly, so I was left with a clumped fringe and random chunks of hair glued together by the product. I soon grabbed my hairdryer in the hope it would solve the predicament, but it just seemed to make my hair worse, parts were dry but wherever the product had touched, my hair was greasy and in desperate need of a wash - not five minutes after I'd stepped out of the shower! While styling my hair with my crimpers as normal, I noticed the solid clumps the product created were lasting longer than before, the crimp survived in my fringe better, but the feeling of utterly yucky hair was a price I wasn't willing to pay for a little more solid crimps.

I will say, however, that I had one curl in my hair from using this product. Right at the very end of my hair, one tiny curl emerged. Nowhere else, my hair was still flat as if I'd straightened it. One microscopic curl in exchange for feeling disgusting for the entire day and wishing I could wash my hair instead of going to uni.

It smells gorgeous though, thanks to the lychees!

So I'd advise you, even if you do have naturally curly hair that needs a bit of a boost, avoid this. The product sticks to wherever you first applied it, clumps like nobody's business and does the exact opposite of activating curls, it weighs hair down to make it near impossible to curl.

I can't find this on Tesco anymore but it's available for £1.99 at Superdrug through this link here.
