Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Stellar - Review and Swatch

It's Spring, so that means it's time to dust off those vibrant lip colours and let the world know it's sunny again! Although frankly I wear vibrant lip colours any time of the year, but the Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar has barely left my lips since I bought it.
It's one of those neon coral shades that's ridiculously eye-catching and unique, I've never seen a colour quite like it. Both in the dim light of the evening and the height of midday, it glows like a neon. As a pale girl, I've steered clear of corals for fear of looking washed out, but this ain't your average coral, cowboy.

As usual, I always have that one niggly quibble about a product, and Stellar is no exception - I bought this when the Boots 3 for 2 was just about to end, frantically storming around the store making last-minute decisions before they closed.
We all know the issue with products in drugstores - regardless of there being a tester blatantly winking people in the face, they think it's clever to open up a sealed one and test it out that way instead. There were no sealed ones left, so I just grabbed the one from the back of the display in the faint hope that it would be the least contaminated. Well, it's safe to say my lips haven't fallen off just yet, but I still have that nagging feeling that I'm using a super unhygienic product.

As you've probably already seen, the Rimmel Apocalips come with a doe foot applicator with a little well in the middle to make it easier to apply a full flash of colour without re-dipping. I still find myself dipping twice anyway because I like a seriously opaque lip, and that's something one swipe doesn't give me, particularly not with this colour which is a shame. But applying a lip colour with an applicator as opposed to straight from the tube is a great advantage for me, especially when I'm usually applying on the bus, and we all know how hard it is to get an even line when your bus route is plagued by potholes.

Despite the not-fully-opaque final colour, it's a beautiful colour that sticks around for a good 2 hours and leaves a very nice paler tint to the lips underneath, so you don't look like you're rocking the dramatic ombre after a drink.

Some bloggers have complained that the Apocalips are messy and end up on your teeth within seconds. To me, this is an issue I tackle on a daily basis, as I have big jutting-out teeth, so it's no biggie for me. Others disliked its initial lipgloss-like finish, which I actually prefer, I'm a fan of sheen-y lip products, so this initial stage is perfect for me, and while I abhor matte finishes, when this product dries into matte after about half an hour to an hour, it's not one of those unforgiving matte finishes that shows up every crease, crack and crevice in your lips.

This has definitely been my staple spring lip colour and I can guarantee it'll be sticking around throughout summer too! I'm absolutely loving teaming this up with a fully black eye look, probably because it makes me feel like a pin-up, even though to outsiders I look like I went carayzay with the colouring pencils.

For £5.99 in Superdrug and Boots, I'm in love with the Apocalips as they're great value for money, Rimmel's really got it right this time and I fully intend on getting the entire shade range, I've got my eyes on Luna and Celestial next...

So that's my two cents on the Rimmel Apocalips and the shade Stellar in particular, but what's yours?
