The Zombie Budget Bucket List

Money Supermarket's Budget Bucket List competition caught my eye long before the lovely Willow tagged me in it. My bucket list is ever increasing as time ticks by, but being a student and lacking in funds makes me doubt I'll ever see some of the most important, sentimental things crossed off that list. Not to mention The Bucket List is one of my favourite movies, and by far my most overused DVD. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman make perfect partners in crime don't they?

The competition asks for two things - a goal on your bucket list that can be achieved on a budget, plus a more extravagant one. For details of the guidelines, click through to Money Supermarket here. The runner-up prizes are £50 with a top prize of £1000 but this will be doubled if 50 people enter, so why not?

My budget item on my bucket list is to go to Download festival next year.

I missed out on Download this year because I just couldn't pull together the last £50, it had been a tough financial year and I was, to put it bluntly, borassic lint. I'd had the best time at the festival in 2012, I'd seen my lifelong idol Ozzy Osbourne with Black Sabbath, sung my heart out to 'Tribute' with Tenacious D, and fallen in love with Metallica for the first time.

Once again, my significant lack of funds prevents me from going to Download in 2014 - as soon as any money drops through my door, it's immediately handed in the direction of the landlord or my bank manager. They never seem to run out of room in their pockets, do they?

While we still don't know what bands will be performing at next year's festival, it's the festival itself that's worth the money. You really can't find such a friendly, open and fun atmosphere anywhere else but Download. Walking amongst 100,000+ like-minded music devotees is the greatest feeling that goes far beyond the mud you bring home on your wellies, although it's never 100% mud...

My more extravagant bucket list item is to see Barry Manilow in Las Vegas.

I don't mean just passing him on the Strip, although that in itself would be worth a visit to Sin City. I wouldn't know what to say though, 'alright mate, howzit goin', I like you, I do, you write the songs doncha'... Somehow I don't doubt someone's actually said those words to him.

I mean rolling up to one of those swanky Vegas clubs and seeing the Manilow live, in the flesh, nose and all, belting out the classics... Copacabana, Looks Like We Made It, maybe even Read 'Em And Weep if I'm lucky. Crikey, what would I wear? I'll dig out that Big Bird costume from the back of the wardrobe, hasn't seen the light of day in a while.

Now this goal kills two showgirls with one stone, because while it would be an absolute dream to share the same oxygen as Barry, at the same time it would complete my life to visit the city, viva Las Vegas. As long as there's blackjack and poker and the roulette wheel, you can guarantee the bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire...

I'll stop now.

What's stopping me from doing this, I hear you cry? Again, lack of funds. I've spent countless lonely nights trawling travel comparison sites hoping that a trip to the entertainment capital of the world would only cost the 17p and bit of lint in my pocket, but sadly we're living in the real world, where lint is at a very low exchange rate. On top of all that, I seem to be lacking in company. For some reason I don't know a soul that would too enjoy the company of Manilow for an evening in Vegas. Raising the topic in conversation greets me with several puzzled faces as everyone in the vicinity very slowly backs away from the madwoman. I can't think why. Perhaps I need new friends. Can money buy friends too?

There's a significant musical theme to my bucket list, which just goes to show how much music means to me. The best days of my life have been spent listening to the music that matters the most to me, and what better way to spend the rest of my life than seeking those very-near-priceless moments?

Money can buy you happiness when you have to pay for tickets...
